Assessment at Penn State

Penn State has made much progress assessing student learning since the 2005 Middle States Accreditation Review and recommendations. Guided by the principles of value, focus and ownership, methodology and application, Penn State faculty, staff and administrators have worked to enhance student learning within each of the spheres of assessment designated in the original plan.

All Penn State faculty and administrators have a role to play in the process, whether as an adjunct instructor teaching a general education course or a department head facilitating the assessment process. Every undergraduate program at Penn State has a designated assessment facilitator who will lead the assessment process.

A majority of undergraduate program faculty at Penn State have developed learner-centered program goals and many of these goals are available to students, parents and faculty on department or college websites. Several of these faculty and administrators have shared their stories for our Assessment Showcase. Browse through these stories to see the variety of approaches and perspectives that have led to the progress that has been achieved. If you have an assessment story you would like to share, please let us know at assess@psu.edu.
